Fair Harbor is a brand shaped by a place — and deeply rooted in it. Inspired by coastal living and designed for real life, the brand has built a loyal following by creating clothing that feels just as right on the beach as it does everywhere else your day takes you, all while keeping sustainability at the core.
And that makes them a Seeing Green Solutionist of the Day.
From Swimwear Roots to Everyday Essentials
Founded in 2014 by siblings Jake and Caroline Danehy, Fair Harbor is a sustainable lifestyle brand inspired by the effortless ease of coastal living and the co-founders’ childhood summers in Fair Harbor, Fire Island, New York. What began with eco-friendly swimwear has evolved into a broader collection of casual, year-round essentials that reflect a laid-back lifestyle shaped by sun, salt and sea.
Designed to Be Worn, Washed and Lived In
Today, Fair Harbor designs high-quality, stylish and comfortable clothing meant to be worn hard, sun-faded, salt-washed and broken in by the life you live. The Certified B Corp brand now offers swim trunks, board shorts and an expanding lineup of everyday apparel that balances performance, durability and sustainability.
Protecting the Places That Inspire Them
On a mission to “Protect the Places We All Love,” Fair Harbor is focused on making a measurable positive impact by using recycled materials, responsible partners and ethical, earth-friendly practices across its entire product line. Since launching, the brand has repurposed more than 37 million plastic bottles into soft, high-performance fabrics, helping keep waste out of waterways while returning the favor to the coast that inspires them.
Better Materials, Thoughtfully Chosen
Fair Harbor’s approach to materials continues to evolve alongside its product offerings. The brand uses a mix of recycled polyester made from plastic waste, organic cotton grown without pesticides, Seawool® — created from discarded oyster shells and recycled bottles — and Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton, which supports more sustainable farming practices with reduced water and chemical use. These choices allow Fair Harbor to reduce environmental impact while delivering durable, versatile pieces designed for everyday wear.
Closing the Loop on Coastal Apparel
Beyond materials, the company promotes a more circular model through initiatives like its Swimwear Recycling Program, which encourages customers to return old swimwear to be recycled into new materials. From ethical sourcing and production to plastic-free packaging, Fair Harbor integrates sustainability into every aspect of its business, proving that coastal-inspired style and climate-conscious choices can go hand in hand.
