Davines Brings Regenerative Roots From Soil to Salon

There's a particular kind of pleasure in finding a salon-grade shampoo that lathers beautifully, smells incredible and comes from ingredients grown using regenerative farming practices halfway across the world.

In some cases, Davines even prints the farmer's name right on the label.

That's the Davines effect, and it's what makes them a Seeing Green Solutionist of the Day.

(story continues below)

A Salon Favorite With Bigger Ambitions

Founded in Parma in 1983 by the Bollati family, Davines has spent four decades earning a global salon following with shampoos, conditioners, masks, oils, serums and styling products that perform like the premium beauty staples they are. The brand is still family-owned, still headquartered at the "Davines Village" outside Parma and now operates in more than 90 countries. It became a Certified B Corporation in 2016 and aligned its corporate strategy to the UN Sustainable Development Goals shortly after.

But the salon credentials aren't what make Davines a Solutionist. It's how seriously they've taken the question: what if a beauty brand actually tried to leave the planet better than it found it?

Luxury That Doesn't Ask You to Compromise

Davines approaches haircare from a simple but powerful premise: sustainability not as a tradeoff for beauty but as part of what makes beauty worth creating in the first place. Products can feel indulgent, perform beautifully and still be created with deeper consideration for the planet behind them. The salon-level results are what built the brand’s loyal following. The sustainability story is what gives that daily routine an added sense of intention.

Regenerative Agriculture, Printed on Your Label

The brand's Essential Haircare line is formulated with active ingredients sourced from Regenerative Organic Certified™ farms around the world, and the label tells you which farmer grew what, a level of traceability beauty rarely offers. Behind that work sits EROC, the brand's research and education center in Italy, the first regenerative organic agriculture hub in Europe led by a cosmetics company.

We especially love the mindset shift it represents: not just "do less harm," but actively restore soil, biodiversity, water cycles and carbon stored in the ground.

Carbon Offsetting That Does Real Work, in a Real Place

Through EthioTrees, a reforestation project in the Tembien Highlands of northern Ethiopia, Davines offsets 100% of CO2 emissions from packaging across Davines, Comfort Zone and Skin Regimen, plus its production site and global offices.

The project also trains landless farmers, expands rainwater catchment so villagers don't have to walk more than five kilometers for drinking water and helps build local income through beekeeping and incense production.

Packaging and Ingredients, Line by Line

Davines also has spent years rethinking the environmental footprint of everyday haircare. The brand now offers products like shampoo bars alongside bottled shampoos and conditioners, giving consumers more lower-waste options within a premium salon-quality lineup.

Across the Essential Haircare line, formulas are made with a high percentage of natural origin ingredients, active ingredients sourced from Regenerative Organic Certified™ farms and packaging designed to be fully recyclable.

In one Davines line, even the apricots tell the story. The brand sources regeneratively grown apricots that might otherwise be overlooked by traditional food retail because they’re too large or too small, turning them instead into ingredients for haircare products.

The company also has introduced bio-circular packaging materials and emphasizes biodegradable formulas wherever possible.

From recycled plastics and reduced packaging weight to mono-material packaging and cruelty-free standards, Davines has spent years rethinking the environmental footprint behind everyday haircare. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes work most consumers will never fully see, but it adds up across millions of bottles, routines and purchases over time.

Why We Love It

Beauty routines feel small until you zoom out: billions of bottles, ingredients drawn from working landscapes, water and waste flowing in every direction. Brands like Davines show that the daily ritual can stay indulgent and high-performing while doing deeper work upstream.

That's the kind of swap that doesn't ask you to give anything up. It just makes the thing you were already doing count for more.
