In the rolling countryside of North Yorkshire, UK, Ellers Farm Distillery is proving that great taste and bold sustainability can go hand in hand. Founded with the belief that the drinks industry can -- and should -- be a force for good, the distillery has quickly become known not only for its craft spirits but also for its uncompromising environmental and social commitments.
Their sustainability journey starts right outside the distillery doors. Ellers Farm has planted an orchard and restored three hectares of local habitat, reducing their land and water footprint while creating space for biodiversity to thrive. This hands-on connection to place is at the heart of their philosophy: that a distillery should give back to the land as much as it takes.
Packaging is another area where they’re pushing boundaries. Ellers Farm bottles use 68% recycled glass, cutting demand for energy-intensive virgin materials. They’ve also created lightweight aluminum “Alumini” bottles for travel and sampling, reducing both waste and the emissions tied to shipping.
On the bigger climate picture, Ellers Farm has signed on to the Climate Pledge, committing to cut emissions by half before 2030 and to reach net zero across scopes 1–3 by 2040. They’re already taking action today. Through their partnership with Ecologi, they’ve planted more than 8,800 trees and offset over 400 tonnes of CO₂.
The social side is equally important. The distillery pays a living wage, shares 20% of profits with employees, and invests in local community projects, ensuring their impact is as positive for people as it is for the planet.
All of this is anchored by their B Corp certification, a seal that signals Ellers Farm is measuring and reporting their progress across people, planet and profit. For consumers, it’s reassurance that their spirits come from a company walking the talk.
